Father Foley was born in New York City and grew up in a small town
in southern Minnesota. He went to Catholic grade school and high
school in the era known as "pre-Vatican II" and was schooled in the
"old" Church with the Latin mass and all the smells and bells.
He attended college at a small Catholic liberal arts school in the
Midwest majoring in English and Theatre with minors in philosophy
and education. He graduated from seminary at The Washington
Theological Union in Washington, D.C. He entered the Paulist Fathers
and has been a priest for 28 years.
During his years of priesthood he has served in parishes as well as
university campus ministry in the United States and Canada. One of
the more interesting ministries was as a volunteer police chaplain
in the Austin Texas Police Department where he spent most of his
time at the police academy.
Father Tom has focused much of his current work in the field of
recovery. His work with 12 steps and spiritual growth has been very
important in his life and has contributed greatly to many of the
ideas contained in The Key Is In The Darkness.
He is very excited at the opportunities for reaching people through
online technology. Currently he lives in San Francisco and is
seeking support for future "internet pod-casting" and virtual
internet seminars in collaboration with The Life By Design
Institute. To contact him, please email him at
